Agriculture and Livestock

Kilis economy is largely based on agriculture and animal husbandry. When examining the land distribution of Kilis province, the total area is 1,520,100 decares. According to TSI 2018 data, 68% (1,029,448 decares) of these lands are agricultural lands. Of these agricultural lands, 53% (548,400 decares) of fruits, beverage and spice crops area, 38% (391.601 decares) of cultivated areas, 4% (48,534 decares) of vegetable gardens and 3% (40,913 decares) ) fallow areas. In these areas cereals and other vegetable products, vegetables, fruit and beverage products are produced. According to Kilis Province of Food, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Department’s 2018 data, in the province there are a total of 7,889 registered farmers.

 

According to TSI 2018 data, olive, grape, pepper, pistachio and silage maize occupy an important place among the important agricultural products grown in the province. When the cultivated areas are examined, the agricultural areas of olive, wheat and grape products cover the most area in the province. In the province, the highest amount of production is seen in silage maize, pepper and grape products and production amount varies from year to year depending on climatic characteristics.

Considering the animal presence of the province as of 2018, there are 9,692 cattle, 116,660 sheep, 93,349 goats and 249,700 chickens. It was observed that the number of enterprises engaged in beekeeping activities increased from 30 to 122 from 2014 to 2018 in the province.

In addition to olive oil production, viticulture is another important sector in the province. However, there isn’t any businesses in the province to evaluate this potential, which raises the effi ciency of the investments to be made in this sector.

Organic Agriculture

Kilis is a province, the organic olives, pistachios, milk and egg production increases. Also awareness of production and consumption for these products is increasing.

Renewable Energy Resources and Agriculture

In Kilis irrigation is possible with using solar energy or greenhouse warming with the effect of climate.

Cattle and sheep Dairy / Livestock Breeding

There is high demand in the province, especially in the case of cattle and ovine fattening investments. Dairy and breeding livestock investments are also making progress.

Modern Greenhouse

Phenology and climate structure of the province, farmers’ requests, raises the potential for investment in modern greenhouse.
